Transportation Engineering
Objectives:
- Understand and solve problems related to geometric design.
- Comprehend mechanical response of pavement materials and principles of pavement design
- Learn about traffic flow characteristics on uninterrupted and interrupted facilities.
Course Contents:
- Geometric Design: cross sectional elements and sight distance, horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, dDemonstration of geometric design software
- Pavement Materials: granular material, bituminous material, paving quality concrete, pavement failures and distresses, pavement design principles, demonstration of pavement materials experiments
- Traffic Engineering: human and vehicle factors and interactions, traffic studies, traffic Safety, introduction to traffic variables and models, design and analysis of interrupted and uninterrupted facilities, intelligent transportation systems and emerging technologies, demonstration of traffic system analysis tools and software
